Important Facts You Need To Know About Visa Reward Cards
- Subject to applicable law, beginning 6 months after the date your Rewards Card was purchased by Great Lakes Scrip Center, a monthly service fee of $3.00 will be deducted from your remaining balance.
- To ensure authorized use of your Rewards Card, be sure to sign the back before using.
- Always know the balance of your card and when ready to make your purchase, tell the cashier the amount you would like applied to your Visa Rewards Card. Always press the CREDIT button. If you press DEBIT your transaction will be declined. The balance will then need to be paid with the second payment method.
- If you decide to return merchandise purchased with your Visa Rewards Card, you may be asked to present the same card to process that return. Be sure to hold onto your purchase receipts and your card, even after the balance is depleted.
- When using your Visa Rewards Card somewhere that a tip may be appropriate, your transaction may be authorized for an additional 20% above your total bill. Be sure that the balance on your card is sufficient to cover the cost of the bill plus the tip added. If not, the transaction will be declined.
- Gas stations: You will need to present your card to the attendant inside the station. The Visa card will not work at the pump.

When you make an online or phone purchase, the name, address, and phone number you use will need to be exactly the same as the information you provided when registering your card. If the information is different, the transaction may be declined.

Why It’s Critical To Know Your Gift Card Balance
If you wish to use your Visa Rewards Card to purchase an item for more than the available funds, many national merchants - but not all - will accept your gift card and automatically offer you the opportunity use another form of payment to pay the balance of the final purchase price. This is called a "split tender" transaction because you would be splitting the final transaction amount between your gift card and another form of payment.
If you're not sure of the merchant's policy regarding a "split tender" transaction, it's critical to know the exact balance of your Visa Rewards Card. You can check the amount of funds available on your gift card by visiting www.prepaidrewardscenter.com or calling Visa Prepaid Center toll free within the United States at 1-866-578-0117, which is the telephone number printed on the back of your Visa Rewards Card.
Once you know your balance, you MUST ask the merchant if two forms of payment will be accepted for the purchase you wish to make. If the merchant agrees, first request that the merchant place a specific dollar amount on the other form of payment (e.g., the final transaction amount less the balance of funds available on your Rewards Card), and then use your Rewards Card to pay the remaining balance. Some retailers, particularly department stores, will only allow a "split tender" transaction if the second form of payment is cash or check. Internet and most mail order merchants do not permit "split tender" transactions. We do not guarantee that the merchant will accept two forms of payment, such as two gift cards.

On June 17, 2009, Eddie Bauer filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. The company has received court approval to maintain operations and to continue to honor gift cards while in bankruptcy. In conjunction with the bankruptcy filing, Eddie Bauer entered into an agreement to sell the firm's assets to CCMP Capital Advisors. CCMP intends to continue to operate Eddie Bauer and to keep the majority of stores open. However, the sale of Eddie Bauer is subject to bankruptcy court approval and an auction process, which is expected to be completed in 60 days or less. Eddie Bauer has been a long time supporter of scrip fundraising, and we hope they are able to successfully emerge from bankruptcy.

Please be advised that Checker has recently made the decision to leave our Scrip program. The company, under new ownership, has decided not to market gift cards. As a result, effectively immediately, Checker gift cards are no longer available.
Please note that any Checker gift cards you currently have will be accepted at the store locations. Also, please be advised that since Checker is no longer a Great Lakes Scrip Center retailer, their gift cards are not returnable.
It all started with a simple cup of coffee.
Every morning on my way to work, I pull into the Starbucks drive through and order the same thing: a Grande brewed black coffee. That will be a buck eighty-six, please pull ahead to the window.
I like to think I'm like most scrip users. I try to do as much of my regular shopping as possible with scrip. But sometimes, I haven't planned ahead like I should, and I would still buy that Starbucks Grande brewed black whether I had my Starbucks scrip or not.
But now, I never run out of Starbucks scrip, because I'm a reload junkie. Once I tried reloading my Starbucks card, I became hooked, and I bet you will too.
Like many scrip users, I just didn't think reloading a gift card was worth the effort. I mean, ShopWithScrip.com makes ordering easy. Why bother going to the fuss of registering a card when I can just buy a new one?
Here's why:
- It's convenient - Before, I thought it was a hassle to register a Starbucks gift card. Wrong. It takes seconds. And once it's registered, I can reload it again and again without re-typing the card number.

- I never miss out on a scrip rebate - Before, I would buy my Grande brewed black every morning whether I had scrip or not. Now, I always have scrip because I reload $50 on my Starbucks card every couple of weeks. I just keep an eye on the remaining gift card balance, which is posted on every Starbucks receipt. When it gets below $10, I reload another $50, and every single Starbucks purchase helps my son's school.
- It's earth friendly - I'm not exactly a tree hugger, but reloading cards really makes sense. Starbucks doesn't have to make me another gift card. I don't have to throw another perfectly good card into a landfill. And FedEx will burn a little less jet fuel for each gift card they don't have to deliver to my scrip program.
- It's healthy and good for you - Well, this may be stretching it a bit, but now that I'm doing Weight Watchers, I'm hooked on Starbucks hot oatmeal with dried fruit (3 points). I get one most mornings with my trusty reloadable Starbucks card.
My reload obsession doesn't stop at Starbucks. My daughter is going to grad school in another town 200 miles away, and she knows she can always get her prescriptions filled at CVS, or her gas tank filled at Mobil, because Dad keeps those cards reloaded.
So being a reload junkie isn't a bad thing, it's a good thing. And ShopWithScrip card reloads keep me going. Isn't it time you gave it a try?

Please be advised that, effective immediately, Black Angus gift cards are no longer available through Great Lake Scrip Center. As you may or may not be aware, Black Angus Steakhouse's parent company is pursuing a reorganization through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. We hope that these actions help their long term viability, but in the meantime, Great Lakes Scrip Center has decided to discontinue the sale of Black Angus cards in our program. We regret having to make a decision involving a long time partner, but due to the unprecedented economic circumstances, we feel that is in the best interests of our non-profit partners and their members at this time.
The Black Angus Steakhouse gift cards are not returnable. We recommend that you use your gift cards soon.
Ritz Camera recently made the decision to leave our Scrip program. We appreciate their past participation and encourage shoppers to patronize our other fine merchants that provide name brand cameras and electronic equipment.

As you may or may not be aware, Gottschalks is pursuing a reorganization through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. GLSC has recently learned that Supervalu will be closing five of its Cub Foods stores by mid March. Supervalu continuously evaluates its stores to identify opportunities to strengthen its overall business and, when necessary, closes stores that are not meeting its goals. While these decisions are always difficult, given the impact on associates and customers, they ultimately allow Cub Foods stores, to operate more efficiently and effectively within a highly competitive retail environment.
